Sinister Six is a cancelled film about the Sinister Six. It was intended to be the first spin-off film of the Amazing Spider-Man film series. It was originally slated to be released on November 11, 2016, however this didn't come to pass due to a deal initiated between Sony and Marvel Studios in March 2015 to reboot Spider-Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Production

In December 2013, Sony announced two spin-offs of the Amazing Spider-Man series, which include the Sinister Six and Venom, with Drew Goddard attached to write and direct the film, as the film will be a redemption story on the characters and it won't feature the original lineup of the previous film.

While The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4 were cancelled on February 10th, 2015 in favor of rebooting the Spider-Man franchise by merging it with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Sinister Six has still been confirmed as a forthcoming film albeit with an uncertain release date. However, seeming as how Spider-Man will be being rebooted it is most likely that the film will be retooled significantly which means the confirmed lineup and plot may change, and may even be put in the MCU as well.

Trivia

  • Despite the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man series will be rebooted, after Spider-Man was officially confirmed to be in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that Andrew Garfield was fired, this film (along with Venom) is confirmed to still be in development.
  • Since the remaining sequels in The Amazing Spider-Man series have been cancelled thus ending the series, it is most likely that Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin will not be featured in the film as the events that have taken place in the previous films are no longer cinematic continuity.
